This is a shot from White Sands in New Mexico. I found this lonely little bush at the base of a huge dune – and noticed that it had drawn circles around itself… with a little help from the wind. As the grasses bent and shifted, they traced delicate patterns in the sand. The result was this circular pattern. As usual, I wanted a very subtle image. The skies were heavily overcast, and the beautiful blue tones worked perfectly as a backdrop for this unusual shot. I chose a slightly rounded dune for my background.
For me, this image feels like a collaboration – the wind and the grasses are as much the artists as I am. ;)
